When Its Hard to Breathe, It's Hard
to Feel Great
It's no secret that respiratory disorders can seriously impede breathing, and unfortunately, cases of breathing challenges continue to rise. Managing these conditions should include more than just medication, and evidence tells us that learning efficient breathing patterns can have a positive effect on managing the symptoms related to these conditions as well as improve people's ability to manage activities of daily living.
With physiotherapy breathing support, you will learn to understand your individual dysfunctional breathing pattern and triggers. Sessions will also teach you how to: breathe efficiently; manage your energy levels; use rescue breathing techniques when feeling anxious; and optimize your core muscle engagement to help you function better overall. The goal is for you to feel more empowered to manage your condition and get back to doing the things you love.
Breathing well is not the only piece of the puzzle when it comes to feeling great, but it's the piece of the puzzle that supports all the other pieces. Our physiotherapists are here to guide and support you in reaching your health and wellness goals when you are living with a chronic disease.
What Does Breathing Physiotherapy Treat?
Breathing Physiotherapy, also known as respiratory Physiotherapy, is a specialized field focused on improving respiratory function and managing various conditions related to the respiratory system. Here are some key areas it addresses:

-
Chronic Respiratory Conditions: Breathing Physiotherapy is commonly used to treat chronic respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and bronchiectasis. Techniques such as airway clearance, breathing exercises, and posture training help improve lung function, reduce symptoms, and enhance overall quality of life.
-
Post-Surgical Recovery: After surgeries, particularly those involving the chest or abdomen, Breathing Physiotherapy can aid in recovery by improving lung expansion and preventing complications like pneumonia. Techniques like deep breathing exercises and guided coughing help restore normal respiratory function and promote effective lung ventilation.
-
Neuromuscular Disorders: For individuals with neuromuscular disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or muscular dystrophy, Breathing Physiotherapy supports respiratory function by strengthening the respiratory muscles and improving breath control. This helps manage symptoms and enhance the ability to breathe more effectively.
